Jewellery Care
Sterling Silver
We use 925 sterling silver for all of our silver jewellery pieces.
Wear: Did you know that you can avoid tarnish by wearing your jewellery often. The oils in your skin will keep your silver looking shiny.
Shower : It's not the best idea to shower with your jewellery on. If you do wear it in the shower, just make sure to dry it afterwards.
Swimming pools + Hot tubs : Definately avoid! The chemicals (Chlorine) will tarnish your jewellery over time. If you forget, that’s okay! Simply clean with warm soapy water and pat dry afterwards.
Makeup, lotion, perfumes : To avoid getting chemicals on your jewellery which will tarninsh them, remember to put your jewellery on last when getting ready!
DIY Natural silver cleaning tip:
2 parts water to 1 part baking soda:
Stir into a paste. Using a soft toothbrush, apply paste in circular motions onto your jewellery piece. Rinse with warm water then pat dry.
14k Gold Filled
Gold-filled jewellery is hypoallergenic, which is ideal for those who have sensitive skin. Made of approx 5% solid gold, the gold is bonded onto a base layer of metal. Gold-filled jewellery is safe to wear underwater (unless the water is chlorinated) and is easy to care for.
- Polish off your jewellery using your soft polishing cloth which comes with your purchase. This will help maintain its shine.
- Avoid perfumes, detergents, and other skincare products.
- Avoid exercising in your jewellery or going into chlorinated pools.
- Rinse with warm water after swiming in the ocean.
How to clean your gold-fill jewellery:
Mix 1-2 drops of dish soap with warm water, whisk until bubbly and soak your pieces for 3-5 minutes. Using a soft toothbrush, gently clean your jewellery piece. Rinse with clean water then pat dry.
Brass
Brass is beautiful with its warm golden lustre and is the perfect jewellery option for all gold lovers. Being almost identical to gold in appearance (thankfully not price), if well cared for, it can last through the ages.
Brass is a metal alloy consisting of copper and zinc. This makes brass a more affordable metal to own. However it also makes it more reactive to the elements compared to fine silver and gold. And although it is more susceptible to tarnishing quicker, the good news is raw brass can be easily cleaned to maintain its beautiful golden colour.
Care:
- Always store your brass jewellery in it’s box or pouch, making sure your pieces are completely dry beforehand.
- Avoid water, perfumes, lotions, sunscreens and chemicals getting onto your brass pieces.
- Take off your brass jewellery before doing the dishes, showering or swimming. Brass + water = tarnish.
- Sometimes, the best defence against tarnished brass is to actually wear them more often - just like your sterling silver jewllery!
Cleaning:
Use your complimentary jewellery polishing cloth to regularly clean your brass pieces to help prevent oxidation.
For jewellery pieces that have already tarnished, mix baking soda and lemon juice to create a paste and using a soft brush, gently clean your brass jewellery.Sometimes brass can turn skin green due to a chemical reaction between the copper content and the sweat and/or the acidic pH of a person's skin. This reaction is harmless and can be washed off with soap and water. All of our brass pieces are coated with renaissance wax to help prevent this from occuring.
